Another Cat Behavior Article

Cats need to sharpen their claws. Hence, they happily scratch your expensive furniture. This cat behavior is absolutely natural. It keeps their nails clean and removes the outer layer of their claw tissue, thus, maintaining claw health. But, this doesn’t mean that you allow your pussy to create designs on your precious table or futon. You can’t spank your cat for this cat behavior either. The best thing you can do is buying a scratch post for your cat. This way, she doesn’t have to sacrifice her scratching habit and you don’t have to sacrifice your exquisite furniture. Both are happy!

Your Cat Ignores The Scratch Post!

There can be many reasons for this cat behavior. Either the scratching post is covered with a lush carpet, which the cat doesn’t prefer, or the post is not easily accessible to your cat. Usually, cats like rough surfaces to scratch. Plus, the post must be large enough to accommodate your pussy when she stretches fully. She doesn’t like to trip over. You need to also make sure that the post is positioned sturdily. A cat will keep away from a wobbling post and will head towards your furniture again. If your cat is too stubborn to leave your furniture alone, a spray bottle can come in handy. As soon as she starts scratching your sofa, startle her by squirting water on her. You can also stick double-sided tape on the areas where she loves to scratch. The sticky tape getting stuck on her claws will stop this cat behavior. Why not put catnip on the scratching post? She’ll soon forget your furniture!
